It was about time that women with a formidable combination of great professional and sartorial skills got their place in the spotlight. Mia by Tanishq recognizes such women, salutes them and let’s them be As Beautiful As Their Work, with their New Jewellery collection. You have to see this to know what I mean.
So, Tanishq has taken an initiative to bring forth the stories of real ‘Mia Women’ out there, through a blogger’s contest – I am so impressed that just could not stay away. So, here are my two cents. I have tried to bring forth not just one woman, but four and woven them together.
My first encounter with a Mia Woman was at my Design School. Isha Priya Singh is an inspiring teacher who also dressed to perfection. But how important does she think it is to look good while delivering your best work?
‘Going to work’ is an occasion in itself, an everyday occasion and therefore I love to dress for work. Had I not given attention to how I looked, my students would not have taken me seriously, ever. To teach them concepts of fashion, I needed to show them that I do understand them myself and I ‘practice what I preach’
I usually prepare my ensemble for the next day at night. That little ritual itself gets me into a frame of my mind for work. So you could say that dressing up for work is a lot about self-confidence for me.
But, does one face criticism and doubt at work for dressing well? Is it real like the video portrays? One of my extremely dedicated friend – Yoshika Gurnani, who started up her career as an Art Director in a Bollywood movie lets us know.
People in front of the camera have the liberty to look as glamorous as they like but behind the camera my fashionable outfits did make me a matter of gossip at times.. I was mocked quite a few times for my attire being too dressy for an art director to work on sets, as the job required a lot of physical work. But I stayed confident and believed in my work and style and proved my mettle to everyone in the end.
But does staying true to your own style be important for your career? A successful Anchor, Gunjan Balwani lets it out.
Personal Style defines who you are and brings it in front of the audience. So, I do dress well as a form of self expression but my profession needs it too. This factor was instrumental in my success.
And finally if you need some advice for looking as beautiful as your work, Megha Bhola - a dear friend and a promising young entrepreneur working with Indian Crafts shares her thoughts.
You should always dress for your body-type and know which necklines, lengths, sleeves etc. suit you. Dressing well starts from being aware. But do not forget you hair, they should suit your face and lifestyle and finally the accessories as they pull the whole look together. I am personally very fond of statement jewellery.
